You are welcome to adjust to your needs if you are wanting more or less frosting. Scrolling through the comments and seeing that I am not the only one that found this recipe and the comments confusing! So many people asking about the additional butter. It seems like you modified the ingrents in the recipe but did not change the recommended pan size or bake time. The bars look and sound yummy but am I correct that the correct amounts of butter are 1/2 cup in the batter and 1/2 cup in the frosting but the correct baking instructions are 30-13 minutes in a 9×13 pan? I need to vent a little in this post. I guess I can because I am the recipe critic right? I think the most frustrating thing about making a recipe is not have it out the way it should. You put so much work into it and it doesn’t even look close to what is pictured. Well friends, that is what happened to me in this recipe. I took the time to this and when it was finished it did not look close to what it should. I still went ahead and made the brown butter frosting hoping that would save it. It didn’t even cover half of the pan. I kept thinking, why do your banana bread bars look so delicious and thick with plenty of frosting? Fail. But then one lick of the frosting changed my mood instantly. Brown butter frosting is the most amazing frosting I have ever had. So back to the store I go to re the banana bread bars. And if they fail again, at least I have the brown butter frosting. I re-made the bars in a 9×13 pan this time and they ed out perfectly.

NOTE: I a 9.5 X13 inch rectangle gl dish and baked my cake for about 30 minutes or until toothpick is inserted and comes out clean. But if you have a traditional jelly roll pan, use the 15 X10 pan that the original recipe recommends. If you use the recommended jelly roll pan, your cake will come out a bit thin. I didn't want a thin cake. But its up to you. Although this cake seems easy and simple enough to , and it is, I have never made a cake using the techniques that are for making this cake such as melting the butter and the milk and adding it to the dry ingrents and pouring the frosting over a hot cake. I think these techniques are what s the “ Texas Sheet Cake” what it is. Before, I use to look at this cake as a regular cake just made in a rectangular pan, but after tasting it my mind will forever be changed. In a large saucepan, bring butter and water just to a the butter has melted remove from heat. Next, add the flour, sour cream, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, vanilla (almond) extract and eggs and mix to combine. Smooth. Pour the frosting on top of the slightly cooled cake (cool for 5 minutes). It may be a lot of frosting if you are using a 9 X13 square rectangle pan( just a precaution). Allow the cake to cool with the frosting to completely set before serving.
